COVID19  Update

West Essex CC – Net Usage Rules, Terms & Conditions May 2020

Most importantly if you are symptomatic, living in a household with a possible Covid-19 infection or you are classified as extremely vulnerable on health grounds you should remain at home and follow Government advice. If you have attended a net session and subsequently you or a member of your household should become ill with symptoms please report this so that contact tracing is possible.

In line with current Government and ECB guidelines announced on 15th May we are now able to utilise our roll on net with specific rules, see below. It is vital that you read these before deciding that you wish to participate in net practise. The club will assume that you have done so unless you inform us otherwise. We reserve the right to amend the rules at any time in line with further ECB guidance when released.

As follows:

The net must only be used on the Non Turf Pitch not on any grass wicket.

The net will only be available to registered West Essex members (adult and junior) for pre booked sessions of 45 minutes duration (1 hour including clean down) which will be restricted to specific days and times to be confirmed and may be subject to change should a club representative not be available or the ground is unfit for practise. Days and times will be published on the club WhatsApp group.

Bookings can only be made through Colin Baxter, preferably by email to baxter_c4@sky.com or on 07773 335306, who will keep a record of bookings. Confirmation of your booking will be by return email. Only those members recorded on the booking and shown in the email may participate in the net.

The participants for the first booking of the day will need to move the net into position and the last booking participants will need to return the net to the stored location. The net security bar must be sanitised on both occasions.

Each session will be overseen by an agreed club representative (who could be a participant or coach) who will ensure that all guidelines and safeguarding requirements are being followed. This person will have the authority to terminate the session if guidelines are not followed.

The current list of approved representatives is Mo Zahour, Raj Kanojia and Colin Baxter who are all DBS checked.

The club representative will carry a first aid kit should it be required.

The net is restricted to no more than 2 people unless you are using the net exclusively with members of your household.

Social distancing of at least 2 metres must be maintained at all times (unless participants are from the same household).

Coached sessions with junior players may only be 1 to 1 with a parent in attendance. The net cannot be used exclusively by 2 junior players (under 18) even with a coach in attendance.

Wash your hands before leaving home. Bring your own hand sanitiser.

Bring own ball or balls and other standard cricket equipment. Do not allow anyone else to use your equipment and take it away with you. Balls in the net should be returned to the bowler by hitting with the bat not picked up and thrown.

All usual personal safety equipment eg helmets, pads, box, etc should be worn when batting.

The use of bowling machines is not advised by ECB.

The club will provide stumps and flags only which should be sanitised by the participants at the end of the session. The flags should be used to mark out an ‘unsafe’ area in front of the net extended to the boundary where members of the public should not stand, watch or relax.

No sweat or saliva should come into contact with any ball at any time.

Bring your own filled drinks bottle.

The club will not be opening changing rooms or toilets.

Try not to arrive too early or hang around after your session. Unfortunately the net sessions cannot be used as a social event.

The outfield remains off limit for practise eg fielding or warm ups involving cricket balls but may be used for daily exercise. Social distancing should apply at all times.

Be aware of other members of the public on the ground. Practise safely for everyone. Unsafe play which includes short pitched bowling and uncontrolled batting may result in the session being terminated. Non participants or members of the public should not field or return balls.

If you have any questions or any of the above rules are unclear please contact one of the club net
